Volkswagen Passat Dashboard Lights

There’s a lot of fun to be had when you’re taking on the roads of Fort Myers, Venice, and North Port, FL, behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Passat. However, if there’s an issue occurring, you’ll be able to tell due to its dashboard light flashing.

These lights are meant to keep you updated about real-time issues under the hood, so to get more out of your experience, you’ll want to know about the Volkswagen Passat dashboard lights. Our team at Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore Port Charlotte is here to help!

Indicators vs Warning Lights

There’s a pretty big difference between the lights that can appear on your dashboard. Indicator lights are generally lighter in color, and usually mean that you’ve activated a system or it has automatically turned on. The light will go away once the system is disengaged.

Warning lights, on the other hand, are indicating that there’s an issue occurring under the hood. These lights are generally yellow or red. If you see one of these lights appear, it means there’s a malfunctioning system that will need to get checked and serviced.

VW Passat Indicator Lights

  • Daytime Running Lights—This light, which appears as a green “DRL”, means that your daytime running lights are currently on.
  • Shift Lock—This symbol resembles a shoe inside a circle. It means that your brake must be applied in order to shift the vehicle into gear.
  • Cruise Control—If you see “CRUISE” in green, it means that you’ve activated the cruise control system.

VW Passat Warning Lights

  • Battery Error—When you see a red battery symbol, it means that there’s a malfunction with your battery, and your alternator has a low voltage output.
  • Coolant Level—This red thermometer symbol indicates that your coolant level is low or that your coolant temperature is too high. You may want to pull over to let the engine cool before resuming your journey.
  • Steering—If you see a yellow steering wheel symbol, it means that there’s an issue with your power steering. Don’t try to resume driving because it could be very difficult to maneuver your vehicle safely.
  • AdBlue® No Restart Warning—This red symbol, which resembles a bottle pouring out liquid, means that there’s not enough AdBlue® in your engine, and your engine may have difficulty starting.

What to Do When a Warning Appears

If you’re out on the road and all of a sudden a Volkswagen dashboard light appears that’s flashing and warning you of an issue or malfunction, the important thing is to remain calm. You’ll want to pull over and shut your vehicle off. If the light still appears after restarting your vehicle, you’ll either want to drive slowly using your hazard lights to our service center, or have your vehicle towed.
