2019 VW Atlas vs Toyota Highlander Engine Power & Performance
Despite their similar stature, there’s quite a few differences between the VW Atlas vs. Highlander and what they can do on the road. The Volkswagen Atlas comes equipped with the turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which can produce a remarkable 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Toyota Highlander, on the other hand, comes outfitted with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, which doesn’t come close to the output of the VW Atlas; this engine maxes out its performance at 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Passenger Space & Cargo Room
The Volkswagen Atlas and Toyota Highlander each offer spacious cabins, providing three rows of seating for passenger. The VW Atlas certainly has a bit of an edge in passenger space by offering front passengers 41.3 inches of headroom and 40.4 inches of headroom for rear passengers. The Highlander, on the other hand, is a bit limited with 40.7 inches of headroom in the front row and only 39.9 inches of headroom in the rear.
Each SUV offers some impressive cargo space that can be expanded when you start folding the rear seats down. When the third row is folded, the VW Atlas offers 53.5 cubic feet while the Highlander offers 42.3 cubic feet. When all the rows except for the front are folded, the VW Atlas features 96.8 cubic feet, while the Highlander only includes 83.7 cubic feet of total cargo space.
Technology & Entertainment Features
These SUVs come equipped with some pretty impressive features and some sophisticated technology systems. The VW Atlas includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen display while the Toyota Highlander features a 6.1-inch touchscreen. Each vehicle includes Bluetooth® connectivity, USB and auxiliary inputs, and AM/FM radios. The VW Atlas includes the Volkswagen Car-Net® App Connect, which is a feature that integrates your smartphone into the touchscreen display—making it easier to access your apps, contacts list, and even your entertainment library.
