Red Warning Lights
There are a few different indicators that your Volkswagen Atlas is in need of immediate attention or service. When your brake fluid is low, your coolant levels are out of flux, or you have a door open while moving, a red light will illuminate on your dash. The following are a couple of important red lights to look for:
Brake Fluid Low—If you are driving along and see a red dashboard light that reads “Brake” show up on your dashboard, or a red exclamation point in a circle, it’s time to pull over. The “Brake” light means that your brake fluids are too low, and there is a chance that your brake system may malfunction.
Parking Brake Engaged—This light is red and comes in two forms—a capital “P” within a circle, or the word “Park.” If you see these lights come on, your parking brake is engaged and you need to pull over and disengage it.
Steering Malfunction—A red steering wheel with an exclamation point next to it means that your steering system has malfunctioned. You will need to stop driving immediately and call your closest service center.
Low Engine Oil—When you see a red oil can light up on your dash, it’s time to make an appointment for an oil change because the levels in your engine are too low.
Yellow Warning Lights
Yellow indicator and warning lights are a sign that there is an issue with your Volkswagen Atlas. The yellow means to proceed with caution, just like a yellow light at an intersection. When you see a yellow light come on your dashboard, service will be needed soon.
ABS—Whether it’s in a yellow circle or lit up by itself, the letters ABS signify an issue or malfunction in your anti-lock braking system.
Driving Lights Burned Out—When a yellow lightbulb with an exclamation point shows up on your dashboard, you will need to get your driving lights serviced. This means that one of your lights has burned out.
Fuel Cap Off—Did you just fill up your tank, but notice a yellow light in the shape of a car with a cap/cone shape coming out of the side? That means you’ll need to pull over, because you left the gas cap off!
Other Lights
Service Reminder—When your Volkswagen Atlas needs routine service, a wrench shape will light up on your dashboard. Give your local VW service center a call and set up an appointment.
Icy Road Warning—Your VW Atlas can sense when the road conditions are slippery. Keep your eye out for a snowflake-shaped light; this means that the outside temperature is colder than 39 degrees.
