There’s a level of excitement when you’re taking on the roads of Fort Myers, Venice, and North Port, FL, behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. Of course, if there’s a flashing light on the dashboard, that could result in a halt to your journey. That’s why it’s important to know your Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport dashboard lights.
At Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore Port Charlotte, we’re here to help you learn more about the lights on your VW Atlas Cross Sport dashboard, so you can know what’s happening and what to do.
Indicator Lights vs Warning Lights
There are two types of lights that can appear on your dashboard. Indicator lights are letting you know about a system that either you engaged, or it activated on its own. These lights will disappear once the system shuts off. Warning lights, however, are letting you know that something is wrong under the hood. They’ll appear as a red symbol, and they’ll flash if the issue is pressing.
VW Atlas Cross Sport Indicator Lights
ESP/ASR—This yellow symbol, which resembles a vehicle swerving, is letting you know that your Electronic Stabilization Program/Anti-Slip Regulation has been inactivated because your vehicle experienced a loss of traction.
Immobilizer—When you see a yellow vehicle silhouette where the back wheel resembles a key, it means that your vehicle immobilizer, an anti-theft system, has been activated and your vehicle won’t start until you deactivate it.
Shift Lock—The green circle with a shoe in it means that your Shift Lock is activated, and you’ll need to brake to shift your vehicle into gear.

Steering—A yellow steering wheel symbol indicates that your power steering is experiencing a malfunction. Contact your VW dealer immediately and don’t resume your journey until the issue is corrected.
Oil Level Low—When you see a yellow oil can above wavy liquid, it means that your oil level is low. You’ll want to check it to see how low it is and schedule service.
Parking Brake—If you see a red circle with an exclamation point inside, it indicates an issue with your parking brake, your ABS system, or even low brake fluid. You’ll want to have the system checked before resuming your journey.
Coolant Level Low/Coolant Temperature High—The red symbol that features a thermometer over wavy water indicates that you either have low coolant, or your engine is starting to overheat. You’ll want to pull over and turn off the engine to allow it to cool. If the light stays on, bring your vehicle in for service as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
